A pet camera from an old Android phone
An old Android phone on a living-room shelf is enough to see whether your dog is asleep or your cat knocked the plant over. Lumixi turns it into a camera; your phone gets the picture, the sound and the alerts, on Wi-Fi or 4G/5G.
What you see and receive
The live view
Picture and sound of the room on your phone, at home or at work, as long as both phones have internet.
An alert when it barks or moves
A noise alert (barking, meowing, something falling) and a motion alert, each with its own sensitivity.
A warning if the camera drops out
If the old phone loses its connection, you are told: quietly after 30 seconds, with a sound after 90 seconds.
Setup
Placing the camera when there is a pet
-
1
High up, out of reach
A shelf or a tall piece of furniture: a curious cat or a playful dog must not be able to knock the phone down.
-
2
The cable away from teeth
Keep the Camera on mains power, but run the cable where the pet can neither chew it nor get tangled in it.
-
3
Frame what matters
The basket, the bowl or the front door. In a dark room, night mode keeps a picture without infrared vision: leave a soft light on if you want to see at night.
Tuning the alerts for a pet
A pet moves far more than a sleeping baby. Lumixi spaces alerts of the same kind one minute apart, and sends only one when noise and motion happen together. If that is still too many, open “Camera settings” on your phone:
Set motion sensitivity to “Low”, or turn off motion detection and keep sound detection: you are told when it barks or meows, not every time it turns over in its basket.
What Lumixi does not do for a pet
No voice to the pet, no recording. You cannot talk to your dog through Lumixi, nor replay its day: video and sound are stored nowhere.
No treat dispenser, no pet recognition or movement tracking, no infrared vision. Android only, for both phones.
If someone comes into your home
The camera also films the people who enter the room. Tell those who come in, the dog walker or the cleaner. The Camera’s screen turns black after one minute so as not to light up the room, but the phone keeps filming.
What it costs
The Camera phone is free. The Monitor phone uses Lumixi Premium: a 7-day trial for eligible new subscribers, then €1.99 a month in Belgium and France, US$1.89 in the United States and £1.69 in the United Kingdom; Google Play shows the local price elsewhere. No ads.
Frequently asked questions
Does Lumixi detect barking?
Lumixi detects noise of any kind: a bark, a meow or something falling triggers the alert, depending on the sensitivity you chose. It does not specifically recognise barking.
Will my dog trigger alerts all the time?
Lumixi spaces alerts of the same kind one minute apart and sends a single alert when noise and motion happen together. If that is still too many, lower the motion sensitivity or turn off motion detection and keep sound detection.
Can I talk to my dog through Lumixi?
No. Lumixi sends the picture and sound of the room to your phone, not your voice to the pet.
Can I replay what my pet did during the day?
No. Lumixi records neither video nor sound: you see the live view and get the alerts, with no video history to replay.
