Is an old Android phone enough?
You do not need to buy a dedicated device. An Android phone compatible with Lumixi can serve as a baby Camera if its camera, its microphone and its connection are working.
What matters most is testing it in the baby's real environment before the first night, then placing it stably and out of reach.
Android 7 or newer, no iPhone
Lumixi requires Android 7.0 or newer. An older phone, even if it still turns on, cannot install the app. iPhone and iPad are not supported for now: Camera and Monitor must both be Android.
For the Camera, pick a device whose rear camera, microphone and Wi-Fi or mobile data still work. A cracked screen does not always block monitoring; a blurry camera or a dead microphone does. Charge it before night-time and, if you leave it plugged in, keep the cable and adapter out of reach.
Which phone for which parent
Keep the more reliable phone as the Monitor: that is the one in your pocket, with the trial or Lumixi Premium. An older Android still makes a usable Camera if its camera, microphone and network work. Both parents in a household can each have a Monitor; the Camera does not need a third purchase. One stream at a time: there is no need to buy a second dedicated baby monitor for the other parent.
Avoid a phone that shuts down around 40 °C, whose Wi-Fi drops in sleep, or whose lens is too scratched to see the crib. An evening of testing in the real room beats a spec sheet. Android 7.0 is the floor; beyond that, software freshness matters more than megapixels.
